Jack Webster Foundation - 2019 Professional Development Fellowship Recipients Announced

VANCOUVER, March 14, 2019 /CNW/ - The Jack Webster Foundation is pleased to announce the 2019 recipients of the Jack Webster Foundation Professional Development Fellowships. They are Stephanie Ip, Van Live Digital Reporter, The Vancouver Sun/Province – Postmedia, Simran Singh, Staff Writer, Daily Hive, and Maryse Zeidler, Digital Reporter, CBC Vancouver.

Ms. Ip will attend the prestigious Poynter Institute for Media Studies in St. Petersburg Florida where she will take the course, Summit for Reporters and Editors in Multi-Platform Newsrooms.  Ms. Singh will also attend the Poynter Institute to take the course Reporting Workshop for Rising Stars. Ms. Singh's fellowship is in the name of the late B.C. reporter, Don Matheson, whose estate endowed professional development awards for B.C. born journalists.
Ms. Zeidler is the recipient of a self-defined fellowship in order to further study photojournalism. 

The Jack Webster Foundation Professional Development Fellowships cover the educational/travel costs for professional development and are open to all working B.C. journalists to apply for. They are available annually for journalists to either attend a course at the Poynter Institute of Media Studies, or to follow a self-defined program of study.

The Jack Webster Foundation was founded in 1986 and named after the man who was Western Canada's best-known and most influential reporter. He left his mark on the B.C. journalism scene with his hard-hitting reporting style. In his more than 40 years of print, radio and television journalism, Jack Webster was synonymous with insightful, accurate and unabashed reporting.  Today the Jack Webster Foundation carries on Jack's legacy by fostering and celebrating excellence in journalism to protect the public interest for British Columbians in order realize a community where trusted outstanding journalism thrives. The Foundation's major programs include the annual Jack Webster Awards for excellence in journalism in B.C., the annual Student Journalism Awards provided to senior journalism students, the Professional Development Fellowships presented to working journalists to help further their journalistic endeavours, and the Foundation also provides educational seminars for the media.
